This week the 52nd Annual Toronto Caribbean Carnival  is in full swing .  The month long festival began in 1967 in Toronto and was supposed to be a one-time celebration of the Canadian Centennial in Ontario’s provincial capital city. Over a million people from around the world will visit the GTA  to “jump up” during carnival including the jewel of the festival, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade (Saturday August 3rd, 2019.)  Rudy Blair Entertainment Media   was on location at City Hall  Nathan Phillips Square  for the official launch of the festival (Tuesday July 9th, 2019) to speak with Band Leader Wendy Jones  of the 7 time and current Pan Alive Competition Champions  , Pan Fantasy Steel Orchestra on the history behind the Steel Pan, How it’s played, how it became a musical symbol for Caribbean music, the future of steel pan and why the Pan Fantasy Steel Orchestra  is the number one Steel pan band in Toronto.
