Had the pleasure of attending the opening/media night for the iconic award winning Back To The Future The Musical(Mirvish) https://www.mirvish.com/shows/back-to-the-future at Toronto’s CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre(244 Victoria Street) A little background, the show of course is an adapted from the 1985 film. if you don’t know the story(and you should) is about a teenager (of Marty McFly) living in the year 1985 and ends up accidentally traveling back in time to 1955 in a DeLorean time machine built by his fiend Doc Brown. Because he contaminated the time line, he must get his parents to fall in love again or he and his sibling won’t exist , save Doc’s life and travel back to the future without a proper power source at the same time, deal with the school/town bully. Biff. The film(first of a trilogy) premiered July 3, 1985. The musical premiered February 20, 2020 and received a 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical & four WhatsOnStage Awards. So what did I think? As a guy who lived and loved the 80’s i was thrilled to see this and IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!! All of the actors who play the main characters are spot on especially Lucas Hallauer who portrays Marty McFly. He sounds and looks like the original actor who played Marty in the movie Michael J Fox. He even wears the red and white Nikes, acid washed jean jacket, life preserver (joke) and has a skateboard. The story has changed a little but it works. There are several new songs (because its a musical) but also a few of the classics including The Power Of Love(Huey Lewis and the News https://tinyurl.com/5xctdtsh ). But the absolute highlight is the DeLorean special effects…AMAZING! Back To The Future The Musical(Mirvish) is 1.21 gigawatts of entertainment for the whole family. I give Back To The Future The Musical(Mirvish) 4 out of 5 stars. Back To The Future The Musical(Mirvish) that runs 2hrs 40 minutes with 15 minute intermission runs JULY 23 – AUGUST 31, 2025 .
