Review:We Will Rock You (Mirvish)

Saturday December 13th, 2025

Had the pleasure of attending the opening/media night for the 2011 Olivier Award winning show We Will Rock You (Mirvish)    https://www.mirvish.com/shows/we-will-rock-you    at Toronto’s CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre(244 Victoria Street). A little background, We Will Rock You was created by the legendary rock band Queen and writer Ben Elton.  The futuristic story is about young rebels fighting to bring back real rock music in a world controlled by a powerful corporation. What makes this show so special is it’s a tribute to the late lead singer of Queen,  Freddie Mercury and celebrates the bands music featuring I Want To Break Free, Radio Gaga, We Will Rock You , Bohemian Rhapsody and many more hits.  I had the chance to see We Will Rock You(Mirvish) in 2007 and I absolutely loved that production. So I was excited to see it again.  I was definitely surprised in what I saw.  The version I say was a bit more serious, more 80’s apocalyptic and very much paid tribute to Freddie Mercury.  This version looks like Tron , a bit of a comedy and makes references to other artists of today as part of the story.  It’s also much more interactive with the audience and you even get a glow stick as part of the fun.  Personally I preferred the one I saw in 2007 but this updated show is still fun to watch and of course the real stars are the songs.  I give We Will Rock You (Mirvish) 3 out of 5 stars.  We Will Rock You(Mirvish) runs from November 28, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
