Had the pleasure of attending the opening/media night for Mrs. Doubtfire, The New Musical Comedy (Mirvish)  https://doubtfirethemusical.com  at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre 300 King Street West.  A little background, of course it’s based on the the 1993 film  Mrs. Doubtfire  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3euGQ7-brs4  starring the late Academy award winner Robin Williams (which was based on the 1987 novel Madam Doubtfire  by Anne Fine ).  The musical made its world premiere in 2019 in Seattle Washington and since then has made stops on Broadway, the U.K, Brazil & Germany.  The story is very mush the same as the film, an out-of-work actor disguises himself as a nanny to stay close and take care of his children  after a messy divorce. So what did I think about this stage show?   Of course you would be bias if you saw the film and felt no one could play Mrs Doubtfire other the great Robin Williams.  I will say this, Craig Allen Smith who plays the lead role is AMAZING. Lots of energy and is always the hi-lite when he’s on stage. The other actors compliment his zany  interactions. The music is ok. Nothing stands out as a strong theme and some of the songs I feel are a little long.  But overall, it’s a good musical comedy for any age and definitely perfect for a family outing.  I give  Mrs. Doubtfire, The New Musical Comedy (Mirvish)   https://www.mirvish.com/shows/mrs-doubtfire  3 stars out of 5.  Mrs. Doubtfire, The New Musical Comedy (Mirvish) runs from January 6 – January 18, 2026.
