I attended the opening night for the two time Tony award winning stage show Hell’s Kitchen – The Musical (Mirvish) https://hellskitchen.com   created by 17 time Grammy Award winner singer-songwriter  Alicia Keys  https://www.aliciakeys.com (featuring a book by playwright Kristoffer Díaz) at Toronto’s CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre (244 Victoria St ).  The 2 and a half hour jukebox musical(with intermission) is loosely based on  Alicia Keys life growing up in Manhattan in the 1990s.  The story follows a rebellious and strong-willed 17-year-old girl living with her overprotective single mother. As a child of the urban street culture, music and idealism our main character meets a piano teacher who brings out her hidden talent.  This also gets complicated when she meets and falls for someone older and more streetwise but very much disliked by her mother.  Family and culture clash as our main character tries to navigate a path to her potential and future. Hell’s Kitchen – The Musical (Mirvish)  https://www.mirvish.com/shows/hells-kitchen is a breath of fresh air for musicals. Where some can feel too complicated or over grandeur, this show is very relatable especially when it deals with family rebellion and soul searching. The vocal performances are stellar and the music is a mix of three songs Alicia Keys specifically wrote for the musical with several of the grammy winners hits.  I won’t tell you which ones(I want you to be surprised like I was) but I will says “Empire State Of Mind” is featured in the production..  Hell’s Kitchen – The Musical (Mirvish)  https://www.mirvish.com/shows/hells-kitchen is one of the best new shows to be produced and will soon become a classic.  I give Hell’s Kitchen – The Musical (Mirvish)  https://www.mirvish.com/shows/hells-kitchen  4 stars out of 5.  Hell’s Kitchen – The Musical (Mirvish)  https://www.mirvish.com/shows/hells-kitchen  runs from September 23 – October 25, 2026 .
