The new television series All American https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtyDAiyAed0 premiers tonight (Wednesday October 10th, 2018) at 9pm on the W Network www.wnetwork.com/All_American . The new series is based on the life of NFL football player Spencer Paysinger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spencer_Paysinger . It’s about a high school football star Spencer James (played by Actor Daniel Ezra https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5746639/ ) from South Crenshaw High in Compton who gets a huge opportunity when Beverly hills high school coach Billy Baker (played by Actor Taye Diggs https://twitter.com/tayediggs?lang=en ) asks him to play for his team. the series follows how Spencer navigates between what he knows, the south side neighborhood he grew up in and the opportunities in the affluent Beverly Hills landscape that can offer him something bigger for his future. Actor Daniel Ezra was in Toronto recently to promote the new series and he said he learned a lot from Spencer Paysinge in playing his character. In fact Spencer was on the set all the time and Daniel was able to ask as many questions as possible. He also said Spencer promised to take him to a football game. What’s very surprising is listening to Daniel speak you would think he is from Compton but not true. Daniel is from London, England and he has the accent to prove it. I asked him what his co-star Taye Diggs thought about his accent and he told me no one knew he had a British accent including Taye because when he met everyone he used his American accent. it wasn’t until after the series wrapped up he started speaking the way he really does and yes it surprised EVERYONE. Daniel also told me he feels All American has a unique way of addressing racism, hopes to introduce conversation and hopefully the show will break down walls.
