The 2018 Polaris Music Prize https://polarismusicprize.ca/  was handed out last night (Monday September 17th, 2018) at The Carlu in Toronto. The PMP is an award for the best Canadian album of the year and it’s chosen by music critics. The winner receives 50 thousand dollars and the runner ups 3 thousand dollars each.  Past winners include Arcade Fire, Feist and Buffy Sainte-Marie.  This years top 10 short list nominees included Alvvays-Antisocialites, Daniel Caesar-Freudian, Hubert Lenoir-Darlène, Jean-Michel Blais-Dans ma main, Partner-In Search Of Lost Time, Pierre Kwenders-MAKANDA at the End of Space, the Beginning of Time, Snotty Nose Rez Kids-The Average Savage, U.S. Girls-In A Poem Unlimited and Weaves-Wide Open.  This years winner was Jeremy Dutcher (Wolastoq First Nation)  https://jeremydutcher.com/   for his album  Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa (Jeremy Dutcher (LIVE) | Polaris Music Prize Gala 2018  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FKXcScqGIw )  Rudy Blair  Entertainment Media rudyblairmedia.com was at the press conference after the winner was announced.
