A song that was recorded by a little group known as the The Parachute Club www.canadianbands.com/Parachute%20Club.html would become one fo the biggest singles of 1983. “Rise Up” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcC-SbcihKI that became a “universal anthem of freedom and equality” would be used at rallies from gay rights, feminism, anti racism and the New Democratic Party (NDP). It also won Single of the Year at the 1984 Juno Awards https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZroAFCIpJs4 . Now three and a half decades later later new versions of this iconic song have been rerecorded to celebrates it’s 35th anniversary but also raise money for four charities Ecojustice, Support Our Youth, CanadianRoots.ca, which is an organization that works with Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth to create reconciliation and ChangeforLeaders.ca (You can find them at TorontoFoundation.ca ) .
