Nine emerging Canadian artists have been selected for the First Up with RBCxMusic program https://www.instagram.com/rbcxmusic/?hl=en. . It’s a cross-country initiative where RBC provides each selected individual participant with a $1000 reward (or up to $1500 for a group of 2 or more selected participants), promotional support and mentorship opportunities. This year’s list are:
- Braden Lam – Halifax Indie Artist
- Ila Barker – Winnipeg-based Indigenous singer-songwriter
- Keynes– Toronto based rapper by way of Ottawa and born in Kinshasa, DRC in 1995
- Lu Kala – Congolese-Canadian singer and songwriter
- MAYFLY– Montreal-based indie pop duo
- Miranda Joan – Neo-soul singer and songwriter born in Montréal and raised in Vancouver
- Sylo Nozra – Korean-Canadian R&B singer-songwriter
- Tafari Anthony – Queer Toronto based artist whose music blends R&B, pop, and soul.
- Töme – 2021 JUNO Award winner for Reggae Record of the Year
