Movie Review: The Crow(Elevation Pictures)

Had the opportunity of attending the media screening of the re adaptation of the comic book turned film “The Crow” https://thecrow.movie  (Elevation Pictures   https://www.elevationpictures.com   ) staring Bill Skarsgård (Eric Draven), FKA Twigs (Shelly Webster ), Danny Huston (Vincent Roeg) & Directed by Rupert Sanders. Now some background , The Crow is a supernatural superhero comic book series created by James O’Barr and  was made into a highly successful film in 1994 staring the late Brandon Lee. There was a sequel in 1996 The Crow: City of Angels and a television series that ran from 1998-1999.  The basic story is our lead,  Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and  his  soul mate,Shelly Webster,  are brutally murdered by members of a violent organization. Eric  returns from  the dead  and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger and with the help of crows, tracks down those responsible for murdering them.  So let’s talk about this new version.  Yes the story is similar but it is not the same as the 1994 Brandon Lee film. This is a re interpretation and updated version of the story with new characters and landscape.  Now I am a huge fan of the 1994 film and was honestly sceptical of what i would see. Well I didn’t mind it.  I thought it was pretty good.  It’s definitely not as good as the 1994 version but I still enjoyed what i saw.  I do have to warn you, there are a lot of very gruesome, horrific and disturbing killing scenes during the last hour, but if you can handle that and are a fan of gothic/raves, I think you can enjoy this, just as long as you can keep from comparing this movie to the 1994 version. Oh and the soundtrack is also pretty good. I give “The Crow” 2.5 out of 5(wish they released this around Halloween).
